Results, Recap, Review of WWE Wrestlemania 34

Tonight was the Super Bowl of Wrestling, the Grandest Stage of them All, and Showcase of the Immortals. This Wrestlemania Weekend felt so different this year. The weekend has been great, the card look stacked from bottom to top and it was a Wrestlemania full of emotions. Before I begin with my thoughts here are the results of Wrestlemania 34:

-Preshow: “Woken” Matt Hardy won the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle

The opening match of the Wrestlemania 34 preshow was the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal. To my surprise there were no surprises in this match. I was really shocked there was no returns, and no call ups. Just when I thought this was going to be a very lackluster Just when I thought Matt Hardy was going to be eliminated Bray Wyatt comes out to help Matt win. It appears that Bray Wyatt and Matt Hardy have joined forces which is very scary combination. Speaking of scary, there is nothing more scarier then how good the Cruiserweight Division has been lately. Cedric Alexander and Mustafa Ali were the two correct people to be in the finals of this tournament. I knew the minute that Cedric Alexander took on Kota Ibushi that he was a made man. The preshow ended with the Women’s Battle Royal and there were quite a few surprises. There were multiple NXT Women in this match and it made it very awesome. The final two came down to Bayley and Sasha Banks or at least I thought they were. Once Bayley eliminated Sasha I thought it was over but Naomi was never eliminated and she took out Bayley to win the Battle Royal. I am very happy for Naomi and think she embodies what it means to be a great represenative for the women of WWE.

Once the preshow was over the festivities the main show kicked off with the Intercontinental Championship. This was an incredible match to open up the show.  All three men put it all on the line and it was great to see The Miz go it alone. I think any of the three men could have won the match and honestly all three deserve it. The match I was intrigued by the most was the Smackdown Women’s Championship match. Asuka has been undefeated for over two years and never even lost the NXT Women’s Championship. On the other side we had the daughter of the greatest of all time. Charlotte Flair is and has been the face of the Women’s Division for a few years now. I am extremely happy that Charlotte ended Asuka’s streak because with all due respect to Asuka if she had won the title and kept it for an entire year I think that would have hurt Women’s Division. I tip my cap to both women because they had a hell of a wrestling classic. I hope we get those two in a match again someday.

We go from a streak ending to the most celebrated day of the year, which is Rusev Day! I am so glad that Rusev got a Wrestlemania match because he’s the most deserving out of anyone right now. I really don’t agree with putting the United States Championship on Jinder Mahal because he’s not drawing money. Rusev is making so much money in merchandise right now that he should have been rewarded. Speaking of being rewarded, I have to say that it’s so good to see Kurt Angle be in a Wrestlemania match. The Mixed Tag Team Match way exceeded my expectations for what I thought it was going to be. Ronda and Stephanie did such a great job preparing for this match. Both women were getting heavily criticized for how they were going to perform in this match. This was a great start for Ronda and a great return for Kurt.

The show continued with tag team action as The Uso’s defending against The New Day and The Bludgeon Brothers. I am so happy that the WWE booked this way they did. There is no way you build up two monsters up like that and have them lose their first big match. Luke Harper and Erik Rowan have been in WWE for almost five years now and they deserve this title run.  One thing that I was really disappointed in was The Undertaker’s return to face John Cena. I really felt that with how he left the show that The Deadman character should have stayed retired and the American Bad Ass should have came back. I am glad that The Undertaker looked in such great shape but the match with Cena did not do anything for me. The match was very short and was not epic in anyway. I think this is setting up for something much bigger between Cena and The Undertaker. This whole thing left me very confused and with a lot of questions of what the hell is going on with The Undertaker. I am hoping we get some answers very very soon.

We went from a return that probably shouldn’t have happened to a return that many longed and hope for. Wrestlemania became Yesslemania with the Return of Daniel Bryan. The way they played this match out was absolutely brilliant. The crowd really wanted to see Daniel but the crowd had to wait for it. Daniel Bryan great in his return tonight. They kept it short, simple and safe. I think the longer Daniel goes in this return you will see more offense from him. I think is such a feel good story for the wrestling world that it’s going to be hard to top. One story that has been very interested is the Nia Jax story. I think she’s such an inspiration for women that are different from what’s considered normal. I use to not like Nia because I felt she was being handed a lot of opportunities but over the last year she’s really earned her spot. I am really happy that Nia Jax is now in the spotlight.

The real Main Event of Wrestlemania did not go on last. AJ Styles in his third Wrestlemania went in as WWE Champion and is took on Shinsuke Nakamura. I am not going to lie my expectations were very high for this match because of what I saw two years ago at Wrestle Kingdom 10. These two beat the crap out of each in an epic encounter that won’t soon be forgotten. Styles may won the match but what Shinsuke Nakamura did after the match was completely shocking. I am in shock that they turned Nakamura heel and left Styles laying. The other shocking event is that Braun Strowman picked a kid out of the crowd to become the new Raw Tag Team Champions. Braun Strowman is the most overly ridiculous guy in the company right now. I will be curious to see how this all plays out in the end.

The last match of the night was Brock Lesnar defending the WWE Universal Championship against Roman Reigns. This is Reigns fourth Wrestlemania Main Event in a row. I honestly went into this match not caring and really hoping this wouldn’t close the show. The fact that Brock Lesnar walked away as WWE Universal Champion is absolute garbage and that is my only thought on it. Other that that Wrestlemania was a really incredible show that exceeded my expectations. The only two things I would have changed is Rusev winning the United States Championship and The Undertaker should have came back as the American Bad Ass. I am going to give Wrestlemania an 8.5 out of 10, because of those two let downs. The quality of the matches were excellent and there were some swerves I didn’t see coming. I cannot wait to see all the fallout from Wrestlemania 34.  Until next time, I hope you enjoyed the Showcase of the Immortals.
