Remember Eddie Guerrero, One Year Later

A year ago, tragedy struck the world of professional wrestling. It didn’t matter if you were a fan, a worker, or in any part of the business. I remember waking up and getting on WWE.com and there it was on the front-page of WWE’s website…Eddie Guerrero has passed away. Eddie was such a colorful performer and could make anyone look good. My three favorite moments of Eddie are when he won the WWE title, him and Reys match and Halloween Havoc 1997, and when him and Chavo had their hair vs. hair match at Bash of the Beach 1998.
What really captured me about Eddie weren’t his in-ring capabilities. It was his story. A story of how he overcame drug addiction, and all the problems he had a long with it. He became a born-again Christian and impacted so many people in the business. That message was never any clearer then when they had the tribute shows for Eddie the night he died. He was so fun to watch in the ring.
I remember reading blog of Michigan wrestler Jimmy Jacobs sharing his experience that he had with Eddie. Even though Jimmy didn’t get a move off, Eddie said that they wished that they could have had a better match and sorry that it was all about him that night. That spoke volumes to me, and makes wonder why can’t all the guys and gals in the wrestling business can’t be like that?
It’s guys like Eddie, Shawn, and Dibiase who make want to be in the wrestling business not for myself, but to help others out. Eddies impact is still being felt today, through Chavo, the somewhat controversial storylines and through the wrestling fans in general. He will always be remembered, and not forgotten. He’s up in heaven with Owen, Pillman, Bulldog, Earthquake, Bossman, Hennig, and all the other performers who made an impact on the business. We miss you Eddie. Viva La Rasa

One a side note: I hope Chavo Guerrero wins the United States title at Survivor Series because he does deserve it after everything he’s been through and it would do the storyline justice.
