A Former College Players Opinions on the BCS

I spoke with a former college football player the other day and asked his thoughts on the BCS. Tom Monroe, a former Offensive Tackle for the Ferris State Bulldogs in 1968, their first undefeated season gave me his thought on the crisis we call the BCS. He also happens to be my stepdad and is very passionate about football in general. Here are his thoughts as well as mine:

Each 1st place team in each division 1-A Conference play in playoff to determine the National Championship. However, there are only 11 Divisions because Notre Dame, Army and Navy are not in a conference. So whoever has the better record joins the 11 teams. They should get rid of the computer rankings. Tie-Breakers are determined by Conference Record and who won the season matchup

He also believed that the Rose Bowl should remain the Pac 10 vs. Big 10 because it’s tradition. I actually agree now that I have put more thought into it. But the question he has and it kind of made me wonder, is what do you do the rest of the bowl games?

Well here is my re-formatted system:
Based on presitige and payout of the Bowls the ten teams who got eliminated would play in the follow bowls

-The four wild-card teams would play each other by random selection in the Capital One Bowl, and Cotton Bowl
-The four teams that got eliminated in the quarter finals would play each by random selection in the Orange Bowl and Sugar Bowl
-The two teams who lose in the Semi-Finals would play in the Fiesta Bowl.

Now what about the other 30 Bowls. The Second Place and thrid place teams of each conference (including non bowl subdivision conferences) play each other by random selction in the other bowls.

I personally think it’s fair and it’s smart. College Football is losing interest with a lot of people and most people including myself, and people I know think the BCS Computer System sucks. It should be changed to BSC- Bullshit Scam by Computers.
