My Top 10 Favorite Sports Movies

Someone recently asked my what my favorite sports movies were so here is my top 10. I am including wrestling movies in this list so if you don’t like it, get over it. So here is the list:

#10-Because this man is my hero growing up and because I love Wrestling, No Holds Barred is one of my favorite. Notice I said it was a favorite. Was it great? No, but Hogan was the man and out of the movie came one of the worst feuds in Hogans career. And that was with Zeus. Tiny Lister is a great actor but a horrible wrestler. I’ll watch the movie any day.

#9-Best of the Best features a great cast with Eric Roberts, and James Earl Jones that highlight Kick boxing in Korea and American. It’s not highly touted but it’s a favorite of mine

#8-Gridiron Gang is a great movie about second chances and through football juveniles were given second chances in life. The Rock does a marvelous job in the movie and really captures what Sean Porter tried doing with those kids.

#7-Rocky Balboa, an American icon played by Sylvester Stallone embodies the American dream. I have all six movies but because two of them weren’t that good it’s a little higher on my list but I’ll watch Rocky 1-6 any day.

#6-If you like movies with All-Star casts, look no further then to the remake of the Longest Yard. It is a good film with lots humor and action. If you haven’t seen it you should

#5-If you like controversy like I do then you’ll like Blue Chips with Nick Nolte. It featured Shaq and Penny Hardaway about a college coach who cheats to get better recruits for his team. It also cameos from Bobby Knight, Rick Pitino, Bob Cousy, Larry Bird, Jerry Tarkanian, Dick Vitale, Jim Boeheim, and Louis Gossett, Jr..

#4-Facing the Giants does not have the notoriety all the other sports movies do but because it was Christian based and it touched me in a lot of ways. I think anyone who likes inspiration needs to see this movie.

#3-Remember the Titans was a phenomenal movie. It showed what people went through in the 60’s and the barriers that needed to be broken. It was such a great movie.

#2-The Wrestler which surfaced in 2008 is special to me on a personal level because of my love for professional wrestling. It’s not just a great wrestling movie. It’s a great story that needed to be told.

#1- My favorite Sports movie of all time is without a doubt Rudy. It was the very first sports movie I ever saw and it has stuck with me since Ive watched it. That movie never gets old.

So there is my list. These are my favorites and would watch them anytime on TV, or if someone wanted to watch them with me.

  1. What about “Field of Dreams” or “Brian’s Song”? I also like “The Program” we used to watch it before all of our football games in high school.
