News and Notes around sports

NFL
The Super Bowl is just six days away and I personally can’t wait for it. I think it’s going to be surprising, close and exciting. I am really hoping Kurt Warner wins it and then retires. That’s the story book ending that he should have. I like how both teams have respect for each other and there is no trash talking. Leave it all on the field is the mentality of both teams.

NHL
The All-Star Game was last night and it went to a shootout. I watched bits of it as I was watching the Royal Rumble last night. I am not much of a hockey fan but it was a great game with lots of scoring and drama at the end. My interest in hockey is starting to pick up a little. It helps the Red Wings are doing so great. The last half of the season should be great. I think the Red Wings will repeat.

NBA
The season is almost halfway over and I still stand by my prediction for the finals, and that would be Lakers vs. Celtics. Both are playing great right now, however the Lakers might be a little bit better right now. Now that they Bynum back they look to almost unstoppable. It should be interesting how the rest of the season pans out.

MLB
It’s official, Yankees equals drama. Joe Torre has a new book and he reveals how he feels about Brian Cashman and Alex Rodriguiz. Well if sports are scripted then you will see the Dodgers and Yankees in the World Series this year. Controversy, conflict, and rivalry draw people, makes money and earns ratings. And what about Manny? He still hasn’t signed with anyone. He needs to go where he can win and get back at Boston.

NCAA
I am sadden to hear about Kay Yow’s passing. She was a great Woman’s Basketball coach and inspiration to a lot of people. My condolences go out to her family and friends. The Spartans are doing great this year in Mens Basketball but I don’t think they have enough to win a National Championship. I am also going to make a bold prediction that Tyler Hansborough will be the number one overall pick in the draft. Wait and see…

That’s all from me for now. I’ll have more later on this week. God Bless and stay warm
