Canada Defeats USA in a Hockey Classic

If you’re a hockey fan in general you couldn’t have asked for a better ending to Olympics. The second meeting between Canada and the United States was just as an intense as the first meeting. The aggressive checking began early in the game but at 12:50 of the first period Jonathan Toews scored for Canada. The end of the period had Cananda on top 1-0.

In the second period the US had a little more urgency but Corey Perry of Canada scored first. At 12:44 of the second period Ryan Kesler scored for the United States. At first the goal looked like it was Patrick Kane’s but it bounced of Kesler’s stick. It was 2-1 in favor of Canada at the end of the second period.

The third period of the hockey game was probably one of the best periods of hockey I’ve ever seen. A lot of scrambling, checking, and close plays in the period. At the 19:35 mark of the final period the USA’s Zach Parise scored the game tying goal which sent it into overtime.

In overtime it was 4 on 4 with sudden death rules. Both teams had a lot of scoring opportunities and at the 7:40 Sidney Crosby scored the game winning goal for Canada, giving them the Gold Medal. Of all people to score the game winner it had to be him. This was a great hockey game to watch and I am sure it had a high rating. What a great showing by both teams and what a great way to end the Olympics. The regular season of the NHL resumes tomorrow. Hopefully in another four years will see Canada vs. USA in the Gold Medal Game again.
