Velasquez Upsets Nogueira at UFC 110

What another great night of fighting from the UFC last night. The first fight of the night was Mirko Filipović vs. Anthony Perosh. Mirko pounded Perosh and the fight was stopped in the second round due to the doctors. Perosh got hurt pretty bad in the fight. The next fight of the evening was between Keith Jardine and Ryan Bader. Bader knocked out Jardine in the third round. Bader has been a force to be reckoned with lately and Jardine has continued to struggle in his last few fights.

Probably the best fight of the night was between Joe Stevenson and George Sotiropoulos which went the distance. I was surprised that Sotiropoulos won by unanimous decision. The other fight that went to unanimous decision was Wanderlei Silva and Michael Bisping. Silva won by Bisping really showed he belonged in octagon with the greats of MMA. Bisping still has a great future in this business of fighting.

The Main Event of the evening was Antônio Rodrigo Nogueira vs. Cain Velasquez. This fight did not go the way I thought it would Velazquez knocked out Nogueira in the first round. When I say knockout, I mean knocked out cold. I was stunned the crowd was definitely stunned and I think anyone who follows MMA was stunned. What a crazy ending to a good night of fighting.

This was UFC’s first trip to Australia and it was held at Acer Arena in Sydney. The total attendance was 17,831 and the gate was $2,500,000. It was another successful night for the UFC. There is no doubt in my mind that they will  be in Australia in the near future.
