Thoughts on UFC 114

This past Saturday night was UFC 114. It was suppose to be the biggest grudge match in UFC history. It was Rashad Evans taking on Rampage Jackson. Before I get to that fight lets talk about the other fights. I was shocked the Diego Sanchez was manhandled by John Hathaway. That did not look like the Diego Sanchez I was use to seeing. Hathaway won via unanimous decision (30–27, 30–27, 30–26).

The next fight which no one so going the way it did was Antônio Rogério Nogueira against Jason Brilz. Brilz who was a last minute replacement for Forrest Griffin did a wonderful job getting ready for the fight. Nogueira defeated Brilz via split decision (28–29, 29–28, 29–28). The crowd did not like that at all. The crowd felt Brilz should have won the fight.

The most shocking event occurred in the fight between Todd Duffee and Mike Russow. Duffee dominated most of the fight but in the third round got knocked out with one punch. Even Mike Russow was shocked at what he did. It was an interesting fight.

Michael Bisping vs. Dan Miller was a great fight. There was a little bit of antimosity going into this fight about who was better, but both men laid it all on the line. The result ended being that Bisping defeated Miller via unanimous decision (30–27, 30–27, 29–27).

Then there was the Main Event between Rashad Evans and Rampage Jackson. I was absolutely disappointed in this fight. The first two rounds they did absolutely nothing execpt for leaning on the cage. Evans defeated Jackson via unanimous decision (29–28, 30–27, 30–27). I personally think neither one of them deserve a title shot but now Evans gets to fight Shogun next.

All the fights were excellent except the Main Event. I hope there is a rematch down the road. I think the fans deserve that much. Stay tuned for more on the UFC.
