Anthony Pettis: Kick Heard Around the World

On Thursday night, WEC had it’s final event ever and it ended with a bang. Anthony Pettis challenged Ben Henderson for the WEC Lightweight title and won by unanimous decision to become the new and final WEC Lightweight Champion. However the fact he won the title wasn’t the story. He did what people call “The Showtime Kick” in his fight and shocked and awed the MMA world with it. I’ve never seen anything like it so here is the video of this amazing kick.

Pettis will now fight the winner of Frankie Edgar and Gray Maynard later in 2011. Pettis also earned Fight of the Night Honors with Henderson for their fight. Other fight that took place include:

-Lightweight bout: Bart Palaszewski vs. Kamal Shalorus
Shalorus defeated Palaszewski by split decision (30-27, 28-29, 29-28).

-Lightweight bout: Donald Cerrone vs. Chris Horodecki
Cerrone defeated Horodecki by submission (triangle choke) at 2:43 of round 2.

-Bantamweight Championship bout: Dominick Cruz (c) vs. Scott Jorgensen
Cruz defeated Jorgensen by unanimous decision (50-45, 50-45, 50-45) to retain the WEC Bantamweight Championship and become the first UFC Bantamweight Champion.

It was a good night of fighting and a great way to end the WEC before it’s transition into the UFC. I cannot wait to see Anthony Pettis fight again.
