Three Match Types That WWE Should Bring Back

Over the course of history we have seen many different types of matches in pro wrestling. Some of them have been excellent while others have been forgettable. I remember watching Wrestlemania 10 and seeing the Crush and Randy Savage feud boil over into a unique match. It was called a Falls Count Anywhere match but it was a combination of that and a Last Man Standing Match. In order to win the match, you would have to pin your opponent outside of the ring and they would have a 10-count to get back into the ring. I think this would be a great way to shake and combine both matches for something unique. It was also allow for some new creativity on how you would keep your opponent from getting back in the ring. If you go back and watch the Wrestlemania 10 match, you would find the Randy Savage got really creative with how he beat Crush.

Even though the Hell in a Cell Match still exists, there was only one time in history that there was a Six-Man Hell in a Cell Match. It took place at Armageddon. It featured Steve Austin, The Rock, The Undertaker, Rikishi, Kurt Angle and Triple H. It settled three different feuds going at the time and made for one of the most memorable matches. Lets take a look at the current roster. Imagine from you had Drew McIntyre, Kevin Owens, Seth Rollins, AJ Styles, Randy Orton and Samoa Joe inside the Hell in a Cell. On the Smackdown side of things imagine Roman Reigns, Bray Wyatt, Braun Strowman, King Corbin, Daniel Bryan and Cesaro. These would be incredible Hell in a Cell matches and would settle old feud as well as possibly starting new ones. This would also be a great way to have more people in the main event scene instead of rotating the same three to four people. This is the one match I would absolutely love to see come back.

At Unforgiven 2008, all three major championships were defended in the same match. They called it the Championship Scramble. Two men started the match and every five minutes a new competitor would enter. After the twenty five minute time limit, who ever had the last pinfall is the champion. This match was chaotic, surprising and unique. That night only one champion kept their title and in another match a competitor who wasn’t even advertised won the championship. For example, let’s take the Intercontinental Championship scene right now. Could you imagine Sami Zayn having to defend the title against Daniel Bryan, Drew Gulak, Cesaro and Shinsuke Nakamura. The chaos would be amazing to see the competitors turn on each other and try to win the title all of themselves. This was also another favorite match of mine because of the unpredictability. I think it would be great to bring this match of that very reason alone. We may never see these match types happen again but they are fun to think about. They would certainly shake things up in terms of creative and booking. Maybe a shakeup creatively using one of these matches would be just what WWE needs right now.

  1. Championship Scramble match was ruined because during the match they claimed the title was changing hands, but after the fact they didn’t recognize the interim winners.
